helped "Jane" and her three small children. They were renting from a landlord who failed to maintain the property. When she complained to him, he threatened to contact the Housing Authority to terminate her Section 8 Choice Voucher. After living without natural gas service for several months because the landlord failed to maintain the service, "Jane" and her children moved out. The landlord did not notify the housing authority and continued to collect rent for two additional months. When the Housing Authority discovered Jane moved without notifying them they sent her a housing termination letter.
"Jane" contacted ULS for help. If "Jane" lost her subsidy, she might also lose her children. ULS requested a hearing with the Housing Authority and "Jane". ULS attorneys assisted Jane and the housing authority reinstated her rental subsidy. "Jane" was able to find better housing for her and her three children.
