Welcome to the ULS Blog!

Posted by emittelstadt |

We are considering using this blog, located on the front of our staff page on the website, as a means of relaying information to staff, and taking feedback and comments.

Note:  If you are looking for the old page to get forms, please click the Admin & Employment Tab above.  You will find everything there.

Hi all,

It's possible that the blog may replace our monthly First Tuesday conference calls as a means of keeping you all informed about what is going on with Statewide Support and the organization.  We enjoy the conference calls (who wouldn't!) but it is difficult for everyone to be available at those times, and it's a bit awkward for everyone to gather around and shout into the speaker.  If folks can't make the call, they are left wondering just what is was they missed.

So this might be a replacement (or perhaps we do both).  The advantages to the blog are that everyone can read and comment on their own schedule, and that it gets you into the advocate side of the website - which has many other bells and whistles to help you do your job.  You'll learn more about those features soon.  Meanwhile, what do you think about the blog?  Post a comment here, or if you prefer you always can e-mail me.

Thanks for your continuing hard work, and stay tuned for more updates.

Eric

Could this also replace the pULSe?

For staff purposes, I think yes. However, we send the pULSe to other people (such as board members). Would we want to stop involving them?

Well, we know we don't want to stop involving them, but how to best continue to inform them? Mary, who does the pULSe go to? How many that are not board memebers? And Craige, do you think there is a way to send a link to get people into the blog, with or without a password to do so? How hard would it be to send out temporary, time-limited working passwords?

I send the newsletter to staff and the Board.

It is viewable

Apparently, the blog is viewable without logging in. However, you cannot make comments without logging in. We might want our board to be able to make comments so we could give them a username and password in order to make comments. Of course, that would mean they would be able to access everything, but is there any reason we shouldn't allow them access? I would not want to have to create and send out a temporary password each time . . .

So I think we should really think about this. I wonder if Mary and I alternated weeks with new blog posts, then sent out an email with a link for board and staff to go in and read, if we could serve the purpose of good ongoing communication with staff, and also cover what is normally in the pULSe. Let's talk more about this.
