What's Keeping SSU Busy - Funding News

I want to make a blog entry here on a regular basis, of course this week and as we've been trying out the blog this hasn't been an issue, but the idea is to just keep you informed about what keeps us in SSU busy. At times in the past that may have seemed like a mystery to some.

We received some good news today, we got a grant Tanta Lisa helped apply for  - $100,000 per year for three years - for work with Seniors.  This will involve hiring some new staff, stay tuned for details.  And congrats Tanta Lisa!

We are working on two other grant proposals due in a couple of weeks.  The VAWA grant pays for our protective order work in Northern Utah, and this year we have the opportunity to apply for additional funds through the Recovery Act and VAWA.  Our proposal will be for a 3rd attorney in the Ogden office, and probably some support staff too.  We'll know about those grants sometime in November.

No official word on the big Department of Justice grant yet, or on what the LSC amount will be in 2010, or whether any of the LSC restrictions will be lifted.  I'm sure they'll get around to that as soon as they solve the health care crisis.  Along those lines, the news from SelectHealth isn't good - a 14% increase in 2010 is the word.  But we'll shop around and negotiate to see what we can do about that number.

Anne, Ken and I also had the pleasure of preparing our own job descriptions for the Board this week, at the request of the Administration Committee.  Always an interesting exercise.  We are busy planning the Board Retreat which will take place on September 29th from 5 pm to 8 pm.  Several staff will be involved, if you are interested in participating let me know.

Seems like enough for one blog entry.  I'll close by saying we truly appreciate all of your hard work on behalf of our clients.  And we hope you have a great long weekend.  Don't come to work on Labor Day.
