ULS Board Update
The ULS Board met on May 25th. To find out what happened, read on . . .
They reviewed the financials which show us reaching July 1 with about $200,000 more in the bank than a year ago; a good position to be in as we look forward and see the Department of Justice grant going away in September. They approved a budget for the next fiscal year that has us spending about 10% of this year’s surplus by July of 2011.
Anne reported on our two TIG grant applications, trends she sees in the 2009 ULS "by the numbers" published in the blog, and the upcoming "Justice Rising" fund raising breakfast.
The Board heard from Patricia Abbott on domestic priorities and task force activities. Patti tried to recruit some family law practitioners to help with the wiki! Ken then reported on the automated domestic pleadings in partnership with the courts: Hot Docs programming is underway, with the Courts supplying the “paragraph libraries” that make up the Online Court Assistance Project, without the slow and bulky “front end” pro se users need.
The Board approved a new Client Grievance Policy, which is now posted on the website. ULS staffers, please throw out your old copies and be sure you are handing out the new form to anyone who wants to complain about us.
Finally, Eric updated the board on the positive energy surrounding a new pro bono effort in Utah County and with the Central Utah Bar Association. CUBA is looking to copy what SUBA has accomplished in St. George, and we’ll look to support that effort however we can.
