Board Meeting Update

The ULS Board met Tuesday night, the 23rd, with an agenda that included:

  • A review of the conflict of interest policy and board members signing the conflict of interest disclosure statement.
  • A review of ULS financial statements.  (The short version:  nothing unexpected here.)
  • A presentation on ULS' protective order work under our VOCA (victim of crime) and VAWA (violence against women) grants.  (The short version: we have two VOCA grants, two VAWA grants, as well as two "one-time" Recovery Act grants under both programs.  We do a lot of domestic violence work at ULS!)
  • A review of the case numbers we've reported to LSC for 2009.  (The short version being that total case numbers have gone down slightly over the past three years, but with our smaller staff, cases handled "per staff member" has gone up.)
  • A presentation by Mike Bulson of the work being handled by the Consumer Task Force, plus a bit of an update on Public Benefits.  (The short version:  we give out lots of valuable advice to people facing consumer problems, and this is one of our most active areas for referring longer-term cases to volunteer attorneys.  Our consumer and  public benefits staff are hard-working and very busy.)
  • An overview of how we look to use data from our case management system (Clients for Windows) in evaluating staff and the quality of legal services we provide.
  • And a look ahead to the And Justice For All fundraising breakfast coming June 3rd.

Thoughts, comments or suggestions on any of this always welcome.
